Healing little hearts in Haiti
In 2015, responding to the crisis which existed for Haitian children with heart disease, Gift of Life International formed a partnership with St. Damien Hospital. From 2015 to 2019, we successfully trained the first-ever Haitian pediatric cardiologist and conducted 3 training visits per year. During this timeframe, we treated over 150 children with heart disease. Due to civil unrest and the global pandemic, we have been unable to send medical teams to Haiti since early 2019. Understanding the urgent need for Haitian children who have no access to cardiac care, Gift of Life International has partnered with International Cardiac Alliance, the Verrazano Rotary Club, The Rotary Foundation and Abbott Laboratories to provide treatment to these children in The Dominican Republic and elsewhere.
