Liam is an 11-month-old baby boy from Manila, Philippines, whose future changed through lifesaving heart care.

Liam and his family traveled nearly two hours from Cabanatuan City to receive treatment at De Los Santos Medical Center in Quezon City. This journey proved more than worthwhile.

Liam was born with a congenital heart defect called patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), a condition in which a fetal blood vessel that should close after birth remains open. Left untreated, PDA can place extra strain on a child’s heart and lungs.

To heal Liam’s heart, doctors performed a catheterization procedure. Using a small catheter and a specialized device, the medical team closed the opening in Liam’s heart without the need for open-heart surgery.

After just three days in the hospital, Liam was healthy enough to return home and begin life with a brighter, healthier future.

Thanks to our partnership with HeartGift and the Rotary Club of Makati West, Liam and his family’s dreams of a healthy childhood have become a reality.
