About Gift of Life

Gift of Life delivers hope to children with heart disease and to their families by empowering doctors and nurses with the tools, training, funding and support they need to treat children in their country of birth. We help develop sustainable pediatric cardiac programs in emerging countries through strategic guidance and expand our global reach through partnerships with like-minded organizations to maximize our impact.

We coordinate the efforts of 84 autonomous Gift of Life programs in 80 countries across 5 continents with like-minded partner charities, hospitals, healthcare professionals, Rotarians and volunteers to develop sustainable pediatric cardiac surgery, catheterization and aftercare programs in emerging countries.

The Power of a Global Network

The unique nature of Gift of Life International is that we’ve developed a global network that is able to overcome various challenges. As an example, we identify an Egyptian child in need of heart surgery in Amman, Jordan. We then contact our Egyptian program to arrange for surgery to take place in Cairo. We fly the child from Amman to Cairo, and within a week the child receives care.

All through our global network that has been set up through our network of Rotarians, and like-minded organizations. This network allows us to impact the lives of more children than if we were only doing this by ourselves. Our approach is to review and evaluate each country to understand what is available, what the possibilities are, what the need is, and then to develop a strategic approach to maximize our impact in each country.

We are grateful for the support of The Rotary Foundation as well as 332 Rotary Clubs and 78 Rotary Districts around the world. Gift of Life began in the Rotary Club of Manhasset in 1975. Since then Rotary has supported our vision to become the largest humanitarian organization in the world focused on providing care to children with heart disease in emerging countries. Their partnership includes logistical and financial support, allowing us to access of over $14 million in grants from The Rotary Foundation. Their support has allowed us to maximize our impact in addressing the global crisis of congenital heart disease in 20 of the 80 countries where we work. We also wish to thank the hundreds of dedicated Rotary volunteers around the world.
